NEWPORT

I wrote Newport in the spring of my freshman year at Brown. I wrote it as an assignment for a pop music theory class I was taking at the time AND I wrote it on piano (which is unheard of for me because I can’t actually play piano). It was meant to be a silly song, and I honestly don’t remember thinking I would release it (especially because it is a true story…and I wasn’t trying to EXPOSE myself…but alas that is the life of a songwriter.) It is perhaps one of my favorite songs to play live because I just get to watch everyone’s jaws drop when I get to the twist at the end. Because of this song, Newport will always have a special silly place in my heart. Also, Henry Wiedemer, who produced the song for me, really pushed the production of this song to a fun place. It was so awesome to hear the song come to life in such a different way from how I wrote it, and it was the first time I really changed from the more acoustic sound I had so far.
