HONEST

“Honest” is my debut single. I released it during my junior year of high school right after my first heartbreak. When I think back to writing “Honest,” I remember it was one of those songs where the feelings were so potent and close to the front of my mind that the song just flowed out in a matter of minutes. I was sitting by the window of my childhood bedroom, where I wrote most of my first songs, and it was this beautiful clear day. I was feeling particularly vulnerable at the time because I was about to go hang out with my ex for the first time since our break up. That’s what sparked the song—the feeling of wanting so badly to be fine and cool and chill, but if I was really being honest with myself about it all, “I still hurt.” Although a lot of loneliness and pain comes through in the song, I often also find a quiet kind of peace in it. Writing this song was the first time I swallowed that it was just me again, but that it was all going to be ok, “I walk alone with my love for you…and it goes away too.”
