TOOTHPASTE
WITH EMMA ROSENKRANZ
Released February 23, 2024
I wrote “Toothpaste” with my good friend Emma Rosenkranz when she came to Providence, RI, to play a show in November of 2023. A month later, I took a bus down to NYC for the weekend to finish writing and recording the song with Emma and Wiley Beckett, who produced the song. Emma and I were both going through heartbreaks and relationships that were consuming us, and not in a good way. I think I can speak for both Emma and myself when I say that we’re hopeless romantics. I’m the type, or at least I was at the time we wrote this song, to put someone else’s needs in front of my own and call it love. That’s what “Toothpaste” is about for me—fighting to find love in a relationship that just isn’t working anymore, “I love you though I know you’re wrong.”
